UPDATE FROM OUR GENERAL MANAGER

Dear Members,

The summer season is upon us and construction on the fitness center was completed just in time. Many of you have commented on the fresh paint and new equipment that is now being used in the fitness center. It has been such a fun project and the staff is so proud to showcase the fitness center. The second floor showcases our new Peak Fit studio that will have special programming lead by Jenny Votel and her team. They will start classes the second week of July with times at 6am, 9:30am, 6:30pm and a weekend class. We are showcasing our programming by offering free classes this week June 12th & 14th 6am and June 13th 9am

Since school is out and the kiddos will be enjoying more of the club it is important that the pool rules are reviewed with the whole family. We have these policies in place for your own personal safety and so those around you can enjoy the pool safely as well. Our lifeguards are trained to use their voices and not blow their whistles all day, so please respect their decisions as they are looking out for the safety of everyone. Please click on this link to review the rules. http://hills.caclubs.com/membership/policies

Some of the rules that are broken the most are:
1. All swimmers must use the club’s shower facilities before entering the pools or spas.
2. Babies/toddlers must wear leak-proof plastic or rubber panties or swim diapers.
6. Kickboards are for lap swimmers only.

Examples of prohibited behaviors:
a) Riding on shoulders
b) Sliding on rails
c) Throwing small children in the air
d) Hard throwing objects (e.g., tennis balls, basketballs, water polo balls, etc.)
e) Hanging on or crossing under or over the lane lines
f) Diving (unless the diving board is officially open and supervised by a Lifeguard)
g) Jumping in backwards
h) Oversized toys, floats or boards
i) Using kickboards as toys
j) Glassware or bottles are not allowed anywhere around the pools
k) Squirt guns and “super soakers”

Employee Spotlight: Megan Herrick

img

Having worked here for the last 3.5 years, this month’s employee spotlight showcases Megan Herrick, one of our awesome group fitness instructors. We are extremely happy to have Megan onboard as part of The Hills team.

Born and raised in Portland, Maine, Megan moved to California about 4 years ago. She is currently the New Business Manager at Sysco Food Company in San Francisco. Megan, always one with a strong work ethic, was promoted to that role by Sysco, even though she has worked there for a few years.

Her Spin & Sculpt class is on Wednesday nights at 6:15pm. Spin & Sculpt is an all level Spin class that brings the heart rate up with a full body sculpting routine using the BOSU©, dumbbells, resistance bands, balls, & foam rollers. Come check it out when you get a chance and get some coaching from one of the best!

When you see Megan around the club, please congratulate her for being the employee spotlight of the month.

Junior Lifeguard Camp

Session 2 June 18 - 22 M-F 9am-3pm
Session 8 July 30 - Aug 3 M-F 9am-3pm

This program is designed as a community-based water safety program for youths 10– 15 years old. The Junior Lifeguard Training Program has been developed to serve many purposes where water safety is our primary goal. Along with water safety activities we engage in CPR Certification and First Aid training. A secondary benefit is the unique combination of establishing the foundation for good work skills, responsibility, certification, skill development, competition, and leadership skills. In providing a well-rounded training experience, we include 30 minute daily fitness, lectures, demonstrations, and team building activities. An additional two hours per week of volunteering may be required by each JR guard. Course Pre-Requisite: 50 yards of freestyle or breaststroke. Retrieve a 10 LB. brick from a depth of 12 feet. Swim underwater 15 feet.

We are open to non members as well. Full registration here!

Vacation Pilates – pack your flex band and go!!
We can’t wait for summer vacation! So we make plans about sleeping more, working out, and de-stressing. But did it happen? Travel can be very stressful and often things get in the way of exercising, so we may return stiffer and more fatigued than when we left.

How can we relax and get fit at the same time?

By trying our Vacation workshop: We have created a quick and effective Pilates and full body workout that requires minimal time and equipment and that allows for healthy ways to breathe and reduce stress.
You’ll work and stretch all major muscle groups and build a stronger core.
Great for beginners as well as experienced Pilates students. Your own flex band is included in the class fee.

Cost: Members pay $50, nonmembers pay $55, fee includes flex band

Support Swim Coach Kuong Chaiyasane!

In our lifetime, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. I joined the SAA community so that, together, we can change that. I am challenging myself by swimming in the San Francisco Bay Open Water Swim and raising as much money to fight cancer as I can. Please support me by sponsoring my swim and making a gift. The money you give will go towards cancer research, prevention and treatment and will make an impact in the fight to find a cure. Thank you for your generosity and may it lead to a cancer-free world!

You can make a credit card donation here, or send a check to Swim Across America, c/o Anthony DuComb, 1684 8th Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94122.

Check should be made out to Swim Across America but please include a note mentioning my name as the swimmer you are supporting!
