March Newsletter 2018

UPDATE FROM OUR GENERAL MANAGER

Dear Members,

Construction has continued and it’s finally under a roof. I know it has been a little loud but I appreciate everyone being patient during this time. We are hoping that it will be completed by the first of May based on some of the delays.

As a reminder all personal belongings should be kept in a locker. I wished we lived in a perfect world where we didn’t need to worry about things coming up missing but unfortunately we don’t. We have day use lockers that are free to use. Also leaving personal belongings in sight in your cars is asking for trouble. The club is not responsible for any personal items that come up missing.

Over the recent months we have had issues with our Hills app that is usually convenient to use to check in at the front desk, view class schedules, download monthly statements, and book cabanas. Because of recent issues we have had to have developers rework the app. If you currently have the app please delete it as a newer version will be available soon, but the old app will not work. In a week we will have the new app available on the app store.

It’s time to reserve your kids spot in one of our summer camps. Registration is open now and a early bird discount is available for a limited time. Anthony has an abundance of awesome programs that will bring a ton of fun memories for the kiddos.

To your health and wellness,

Derek

Member Spotlight: The Kelly Family

img

When it is time to have fun, the Kelly family knows how to do it. This month our member spotlight features the Kelly family: Tom, Amy, Livana and Asher. Relatively new to The Hills, you can always find them here keeping active, whether it is to exercise in the gym or swimming.

Both Tom and Amy are extremely busy with their day to day work operations. Finding time to get away from the hustle and bustle of their jobs is something they strive for. Travelling is one way to relax. Tom, originally from Australia and Amy, born in the San Francisco Bay Area organize fun trips for the family each year.

Some of the other activities they like to do as a family are hiking around the East Bay, swimming here at The Hills, and spending time with family and friends. Asher likes to play baseball, swim, and have his nails painted Spiderman colors. Livana is learning to walk and likes to hang out with other babies at The Hills.

The Kelly family love to be outdoors, cherish their time together at The Hills, and enjoy being in a wonderful community to meet families and hang out with each other. They are looking forward to a fantastic summer coming up!

If you have the opportunity to see the Kelly family, please congratulate them for being the member spotlight for this month.

A secondary benefit is the unique combination of establishing the foundation for good work skills, responsibility, certification, skill development, competition, and leadership skills. In providing a well-rounded training experience, we include 30 minute daily fitness, lectures, demonstrations, and team building activities. An additional two hours per week of volunteering may be required by each JR guard. Course Prerequisite: 50 yards of freestyle or breaststroke. Retrieve a 10 LB. brick from a depth of 12 feet. Swim underwater 15 feet.

We are open to non members as well. Full registration here!

Group X

Great news from the Group Exercise department. For the month of March, we are trying out three new classes and will have a few time shifts.

First - we are adding Spin Express Monday mornings. Come join Birgitte at 10:00 am for a quick 45-minute cardio session on the bike. To make room for the new class, the 9:30 class will move up to the 9:00 am. BBC (Basic Body Conditioning )will be replaced by TBC with Angelique. Both classes offer over strength training, however, Total Body Conditioning adds a little cardio for a complete workout. Finally, our 6:00 pm Thursday night Zumba class is being replaced by Cardio Fusion with Liz/Vanessa. This is a great class for anyone who wants to have some fun and sweat. While the class incorporates some high intensity, all levels are welcome. modifications will be provided.

A few small time changes - Wednesday the 10:05 am Spin/core class returns to 10:00 am. Also, the Wednesday 11:15 am Pilates class is going back to its original 11:00 am in order to streamline the class schedule.

Look forward to seeing you all in class -

ZENGA TRAINING IS BACK ON MONDAYS AT 5 PM
Come try out the latest in fitness and wellness: Zenga movement and fascial fitness.

What is fascia? The fascia surrounds all our muscles and internal organs. Fascia often gets tight and dehydrated which can lead to stiffness and pain. Tight fascia in the center of the back is often both the cause and the effect of poor posture. Many athletes overdevelop fascia in areas where they recruit muscles, such as the hips and thighs and the tight fascia often impairs athletic performance and can lead to injuries.

What is Zenga? Zenga is a synergistic blend of yoga, Pilates and breath work, using Pilates equipment and small props. The Zenga method is especially designed to work and release fascia, other benefits include increased core strength and flexibility and reduced tension. Anyone can do Zenga and everyone will benefit.

Teacher: Therese Brewitz, certified STOTT PILATES instructor and certified Zenga Mat and Equipment instructor

Starts: Monday March 12, 5-6 pm in the Pilates studio. Space is limited to 5 participants.
Cost: Drop in $40, packages of 4 ($140) and 10 ($325) available, good towards any Pilates studio class.

On February 18th, six Hills members joined Pilates Director Therese Brewitz for a week in the sun at Grand Isla Navidad in Mexico.

Therese and other Hills instructors have ventured down to Grand Bay for many years, offering yoga, Pilates and aqua classes at this beautiful resort.

This was the first time a group from the Hills joined and it was a complete success!
The ladies got to experience snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, yoga, Pilates, aquaerobics, but also got some leisure time in with shopping, drinking from a whole coconut, a few margaritas at the bar and eating lobster, ceviche and other spectacular seafood.
