School has started again, but we still have a lot of activities for all ages to keep you and your loved ones active here at the club. First off, we have an outstanding dance program featuring two classes taught by professional dancer, Hannah Westbrook; one for ages 3-5 and another for ages 6+. You can read more about one or our new dance instructors, Hannah Westbrook in the Pilates section. We are truly blessed to have such a talented individual leading our program for the fall.

Also coming up is our second Fitness fair for 2016 on September 10th. The fair will feature our personal trainers and nutritionist as well as a Tae Kwon Do demonstration. Come sample some treats and find out what fitness program would fit your schedule and goals.

September 10th we will also be hosting our annual parents vs. swimmers meet here at the club from 8am-1pm. The lap pool and diving well will be closed during this time but we encourage you to come out and support our swimmers and parents as they have a fun family competition.

Lastly, don’t forget about our upcoming Jazz event on September 30th with Rebecca Faiola and her band JetBlacq. They will have a special guest pianist: Larry Dunlap. Be sure to pick up your tickets as soon as possible, as they will surely sell out fast. Dinner is included in the ticket price along with a special wine tasting. It’s an event you won’t want to miss! Wine and dine at our next Jazz event
The Hills is pleased to announce that JetBlacq will be performing for us again on Friday, September 30th. You may remember the “Jingles with JetBlacq” event from December 4th featuring our member Rebecca Faiola as the enchanting vocalist. We can’t wait for their upcoming “Strictly Sinatra” show to grace our clubhouse next month. Join us for a rat-pack style evening of music, food, drinks, and socializing. Sign-up at the front desk or by calling (510) 339-0234. Only 60 spots available so be sure to sign-up ASAP! Tickets are $30 (excluding tax) for members and $35 for non-members and includes entrance to the show and dinner. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm and the show starts at 7pm. You’re welcome to BYOB and a complimentary wine tasting may be provided. More details will follow in the next newsletter so keep an eye out! We look forward to seeing you all there.

Swim Team
The fall season of swim team is underway. Hills Hurricane Swimming continues into its seventh year of being an independent team with a full group of swimmers and incredible Hills families. You will generally see us every day on the pool deck both morning and afternoon/evening. During this time we always leave some room in the pool for regular lap swimmers. For information on our practice times and information on the team in general, please visit our team website.

Saturday, September 10th is our 11th annual Parents vs. Swimmers meet. Feel free to come by and cheer on the kids and parents as they take part in racing each other. Please note that the entire lap pool and diving well will be closed from 8:00am - 1:00pm during the meet.

imgPre-Competitive Swim Team
Manta Rays (Pre-Swim Team) AGE 4-8, 4 - 4:30pm on Wednesdays & Fridays
Swimmers will learn the basics of all four swimming strokes as well as how to swim in, and jump or dive into deep water. Team activity skills and group swim safety is introduced. Instruction will be conducted in and out of the water.

Tidal Waves (Novice Swim Team) AGE 6-10, 4:30 - 5pm on Wednesdays & Fridays
Swimmers must pass the following prerequisites for swim team: *50 yards of freestyle with side breathing, *25 yards of back swimming, *treading water for 30 seconds, and *streamlining off the wall for 5 yards. This group will prepare swimmers for competitive swim team and will incorporate on-deck coaching with minimal in-water instruction.

Session 9: Aug 30 - Sept 23 (meets Tue/Thu the first week only)
Session 10: Sept 28 - Oct 21
Session 11: Oct 26 - Nov 18

Year round private lessons continue. Starting October 1st we will invite any non-members to take swim lessons in our off-season through April. Sunrise Barre: Want to get fit fast? Try our Sunrise Barre Workout on Mondays at 6-7am. Barre training involves core, cardio, ballet conditioning, planks, strength training, and stretching, using small range movements and lots of repetitions. imgIntro to Reformer: New to reformer? Come to our Intro to Reformer class and learn the ropes - literally! This is a safe yet fun and challenging workout where you get introduced to the Pilates reformer equipment. Reformer training has numerous benefits for strength and core control. Come and see for yourself on Mondays at 7-8am.

Mae Chesney is an instructor certified in: Pilates, Barre training, and ballet and fitness in the East Bay, as well as a professional ballet dancer. Mae is a STOTT certified Pilates instructor (STOTT is considered the Ivy League of Pilates training. Many of our Hills instructors hold certifications from this school). Mae has taught fitness and dance for 6 years and her students range from dancers ages 3 and up to adults in ballet, barre, and Pilates training. Mae has appeared as a professional ballet dancer in several productions in the Bay Area and throughout the country. She feels very passionate about anatomy, physical health, and fitness, and wishes to share her knowledge with her clients to help them achieve their highest fitness goals.

Pre-Ballet for children 3-5 on Mondays at 3:15-4pm
This program is geared towards our youngest dancers. We use simple ballet steps, storytelling, and rhythm exercises to develop a love for dance and movement.

Intro to Dance for children 6­+ (or younger with previous experience). Mondays, 4-5pm.
Dancers 6 and up get introduced to the world of dance through the exploration of classical ballet, jazz, hip hop, and musical theater.

Cost: Try the first class for $16. Full semester for $196. Non-­members welcome for $224.

Fall semester starts Monday, September 12th, and ends on Monday, December 12th, with a recital. Classes are taught by Dance Instructor and professional Ballet Dancer, Hannah Westbrook.

Hannah is a professional dancer, choreographer, and stage director based in Berkeley, CA, where she graduated with honors from UC Berkeley with a BA in Dance. Her many specialties include: Modern Dance, Improv, and Storytelling. Hannah has experience working with dancers as young as 3 years old, and spends her spare time developing and facilitating a class on improvisation for recovering homeless in transitional housing. imgJoin us at the next Fitness Fair!

On September 10th, 2016, the Fitness Department will be holding its 2nd Fitness Fair of the year from 10am to 1pm. This is another opportunity for you to get some valuable information for free. You can check your body fat, set up a fitness orientation, or spin the wheel to win fitness prizes. We'll have a fantastic staff of fitness professionals on hand to assist you, as well as a Tae Kwon Do demonstration, and discussions about the benefits of Small Group Training. Bring the family! We'll have something for everyone.

imgSummer Camp 2016 has finally ended!
I want to personally thank all of the families who actively participated in our summer camp this year. Our 10 themes for the summer were a hit and we hope to introduce more creative themes to the summer camp program in 2017 with the same fun energy we have every year. Our camp counselors, Gaia, Travis, Sophia, and Kyle, deserve a lot of credit for the incredible enthusiasm this year. When you see them around the club, please make sure to thank them for their hard work.

As your Camp Director for the 6th consecutive year, it has been a pleasure to bring innovative ideas to the camp. I can’t wait for 2017 to come around and do this all over again. In the coming months, my goal is to have an idea of the dates for Summer 2017 and work on the online registration to have it up and running early. Thank you again for signing your children up this year. We look forward to seeing all of you next year.

Join USPTA Elite Professional Eddie Pasternak for free one-hour tennis clinics at The Hills! Eddie has taught tennis for over 25 years and has been sought after by clubs and resorts across the world, including France and Jamaica where he previously worked as a Tennis Instructor. Eddie has also worked with professional Tennis players, such as former pro Brad Gilbert. Eddie is most thrilled to be a part of a Tennis player’s progression, and be able to see the change. Eddie leads clinics each month that address all ages and skill levels. If it’s raining on one of the Clinic dates, the clinic will be held either the next day or the following weekend.
➢ Saturday, September 17th, 12pm Intermediate/Advanced
➢ Saturday, September 24th, 12pm Beginner’s

Sign-up for our NEW 4-week tennis session! 

To balance out school studies, a new kid's tennis session is being offered! There will be two options of classes to sign up for (listed below). Lessons will be once a week over a 4-week period and will cost $100. Sign-ups will gladly be taken at front desk or directly with Lexi at Bevinslexi@yahoo.com. The two time slots available are:

➢ Wednesdays, 6:15-7:15pm. (September 14th, 21st, and 28th, and October 5th)
➢ Saturdays, 11-12pm. (September 17th, and 24th, and October 1st and 8th)

Tennis rackets can be provided if necessary. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring water! Minimum number of enrollments required is 4 children. Class may be cancelled if enrollment is not met.
